So my summer doesn't seem to be too interesting...

But then again, you never know! Brief outline: realax, take a chem class (eek), relax, Charleston for 4th of July, relax, Alaskan cruise, pack up and head back to school. All that relaxing is also going to involve job searching... I promise.

The title of my blog is from the Aerosmith song, and the idea behind it is that it's hard to keep up with friends over the summer, and even harder when they live across oceans (rawr international kids <3). So this is a way for you to keep up with my life, and maybe you'll take a page from my book (blog?) and start one yourself!

Wishing I was knee deep in the water somewhere...

Got the blue sky breeze and it don't seem fair
Only worry in the world is the tide gonna reach my chair
Sunrise there's a fire in the sky
Never been so happy
Never felt so high
And I think I might have found me my own kind of paradise
-Knee Deep, Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett

This is my summery-summer song. The kind of song that makes you just want to sit out in the sun by the pool with a cold glass of sweet tea and a great book while this plays in the background. Probably the influence of Jimmy Buffett, who specializes in I-don't-want-to-do-anything-but-sit-around-and-drink songs (think Margaritaville and It's 5 o'clock Somewhere), and Zac Brown Band who just makes good I-love-being-southern music. Perfect for a nice long Chaaah-lst'n (as the locals say it) vacation.

So tomorrow I'm off to Charleston for my first vacation of the summer! I've come up with a vacation pledge:

1. I promise to tell the truth about everything and anything that happens for the duration of the trip.
2. No names will be used, only nicknames.
3. I will add as many details that I can remember, as is tasteful,  including pictures whenever is necessary, or whenever.

So when I'm out of town, I'm sticking to this... we'll see how it goes =]

Hush little baby don't say a word...

And never mind that noise you heard
It's just the beast under your bed
In your closet in your head

Exit light
Enter night
Grain of sand

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to never never-land

                                                -Enter Sandman, Metallica

Um... yea, about the song... The house I was house sitting in was super creepy. Like blasting hard rock constantly to keep my mind occupied creepy.

Wow... it's been a long time since I've posted. Probably because nothing interesting has happened to me... Until the past few days. List time!

1. I was house sitting all last weekend.  In a creepy house with tons of statues, paintings and creepiness. It was so totally worth it. Plus I got to sleep on a waterbed so I'm happy. And my sister spent the night with me one night, which made it less creepy.
2. I hung out with friends from middle school in the pool, and we had a movie night this week too. It was great to find out that we're still great friends. Like we would've never hung out all together if we just knew each other from high school, but because we've known each other forever it's pretty awesome. We lost a few girls along the way, but I'm so happy the four of us are so close.
3. I finished my class (and got my credit with little to no effort on my part)! Yay being done with math and science forever!
4. My bed broke... not like that you pervs! I was sitting on it, and BAM it broke... Don't ask me... but my dad's fixing it so it's all good.
5. I baked a chocolate cake for my grandma's birthday dinner last night. But she was sick and couldn't go to her surprise party... the cake was still good! It's pretty much pure chocolate... so obviously it's delicious.
6. I went to the doctor about my knee today. I need surgery (July 14 if anyone's wondering...). Yea not too happy about that, but at least it should be better soon.
7. I made my class schedule for next year so much better than it was before. Cause I'm cool like that.
8. We shipped my sister off to Anytown, a week-long summer camp for high schoolers about diversity and all that good stuff. I thought she was gonna chase the car to make us take her home with us, but she got on the bus and headed off for a week of fun in the mountains... we'll see how she liked it when she gets back.
8. ALL OF MY FRIENDS LEFT ME!!! For far off places like Spain, London, France, Israel, and the list goes on. At least I can rub Alaska in their faces eventually...

Other than that it's been pool time, relaxing, cooking... Pretty much a perfect summer!

Turn off your mind, relax...

And float down stream
It is not dying
It is not dying

Lay down all thought
Surrender to the void
It is shining
It is shining

                   -Tomorrow Never Knows, The Beatles

1. I wish I could turn off my mind... I've been thinking way too much lately. 2. I love The Beatles, and the covers I heard at the concert I went to weren't half bad. 3.

Like I promised, an update on my knee. I had to get a cortisone shot. I think I cut off the circulation in my dad's hand during that thing... I HATE shots. So then I couldn't feel my knee for a while (half the injection is numbing stuff) and when I could, it HURT. So I kept ice on it on and off until I had to leave to eat with my friends before the Jonas Sees in Color concert downtown in the park. I met some of my friends' friends from Chapel Hill, and one of them loves sweet tea almost as much as I do =] We played cornhole before we left, I got called a sorostitute and a ginger all night, and it was so much fun! And then the concert was pretty awesome, even though their new music is kinda depressing... and I had to stand the whole time... but then we ran into a friend from high school who's at American (came up with the idea of visiting DC this summer together) and then got cheesecake!

So that was a fun night, but then the next day I was back at the same friend's house as before for a pool party!!! Summer officially began with a pool party and cook out. It was great to just hang out with people I hadn't seen since graduation, and I magically didn't get sunburned! I'd call this weekend a success. But wait... there's more! There was a party going on down the street at another friend's house that we ended up going to, but considering my half hour drive home I just sipped on soda and hung out with people I'd known all my life. Such a great night...

Basically. This weekend counts as the start of summer for me. Real summer, with pool, parties, friends, food, and everything else summer has to offer (minus sunburn...). It reminds me of when I was younger and the best summer day I could imagine was waking up early, going to the pool for the day and getting ice cream. Now everything's just pushed back a few hours and I can drive myself around!

Yall come back now ya hear!

PS- yea my knee's still angry with me. but hopefully it'll start getting better soon?

We're going at it tonight tonight...

There's a party on the rooftop top of the world
Tonight tonight and were dancing on the edge of the Hollywood sign
I don't know if I'll make it but watch how good I'll fake it
Its all right, all right, tonight, tonight

                                                         -Tonight, Hot Chelle Rae

1. This song makes me happy. 2. That's really the only reason it's the title... I'm neither in Hollywood nor on a rooftop. BUT... there's going to be partying this weekend.

This week's been pretty fun... make that ridiculously fun. Every Memorial Day weekend for the past 5 years, I went camping with my friend's family, and went canoeing too. It was the highlight of my end-of-the-school-year. But this year her brother's in Argentina *sojealous* so her parents said no trip, and of course we couldn't go alone because who would let two girls go camping on their own... not her parents. So we decided to camp out in her back yard Sunday night... well more like in her garage... on mattresses... but with a campfire outside. And smores of course! Then Monday, we went out to my house to play in the pool! And tan. Or lack-of-tan/avoid-sunburn for me and my already sunburned friend. Then my daddy took me to see Thor (it was amazing, but there wasn't enough of the love story to make it make sense...) and then I crashed...

Tuesday was lab and class, Wednesday was lab and a test, and today was, you guessed it, lab and class. But Tuesday and Wednesday I hung out at my friend's house, where there's a pool. Sadly, we got lazy on Tuesday and just watched Law and Order: SVU (lovelovelove). Then after class, I went over to my old school (like preK-8th grade school) for my preK teacher's retirement party. Wednesday my friend with a pool had some other friends over that I hadn't seen in forever and we actually used the pool. Today I went over to another friend's house and cut up her shirt for her because I'm craftsy like that. Since I actually finished it while she was wearing it, she just wore it to go pick up her brother from school!

And coming up tomorrow is a concert, and then Saturday is another pool party. Oh summer... the time to party. It's gonna be a good weekend... I can't wait to tell you about it!

On another note, I'm considering joining the Navy. Now for those that know me well, I PROMISE I WON'T BREAK!!! For those who don't, I get hurt a lot. After I graduate college, I'd go into Officer Candidate School and have a 12-week (instead of 10-week) training time, then start classes for what I want to specialize in. My dad's talking to his military-ish friend about it to see if it's worth it... so we'll see. Any opinions? Leave a comment or let me know =]

Yall come back now ya hear!

PS: I'm going to the doctor about my knee tomorrow... kinda freaked out. I'll let you know how it goes.

It's been such a long time...

I think I should be goin', yeah
And time doesn't wait for me, it keeps on rollin'
                                                                            -Boston

First, my internet was dead for a week, then I was baking for two days straight, then I got lazy. But no more! I'll tell yall about my oh so eventful weekend.

I can't really think of anything awesome that happened over the week, besides me cooking dinner and baking cakes from Wednesday on... But Thursday night was when everything started happening. Me, my best friend and my sister went to the midnight showing of the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Though it was missing a few key elements (like the two best friend pirate guys, and rum) it was a pretty epic movie! We got back at 3am and I went straight to sleep...
Friday night we went off to my cousins' house. It was the reason I'd been baking. I wanted to show off my skillz to my family and my cousin's new boyfriend (he's sweet and funny and I approve, in case someone was wondering). It was great to see them cause we don't ever really get to hang out much.
Saturday was pretty slow, until I went over to see one of my friends that literally just got back from college! I helped him unpack a little, and then went and got ice cream with him and his sister. Then we just hung out with his mom and watched Southpark (I'm still iffy on the show... sometimes it's funny and sometimes I'm just like ew).
All I've done today is laze around the house and watch tv. I had a mini freak out about how my knee isn't getting any better from last year when I hurt it, so now I'm back to going to doctors about it... hopefully someone can fix it!
So overall it's been a perfect pre-class-starting weekend! My chem class starts tomorrow and I'm kinda freaked out, but happy to get it out of the way.

Everybody was Kung Fu fighting...

Except not really, more like tae kwon do fighting... I don't do kung fu. Get it right.

So I just found out today that I can test for my brown belt soon... like this week. In my school, the belts go: white, yellow, orange, green, purple, blue, brown, red, red with a stripe, white with a stripe then black. So I'm moving on up in the TKD world! I'd love to test at GW, but random injuries and illnesses prevented that all year. RAWR. But now I should be back on track! Woo!!!

Today's just been a long day. I came home from TKD, went straight out with my mom and sis, came home and made dinner, then realized that it's the Saturday of my best friend's senior violin recital!!! It was 6:34 and the recital started at 7:00. Dude it's like half an hour away from my house without traffic or stupid slow people on the roads! So I ran to get dressed, and then realized I was starving, so I grabbed some of the food  I made, and then ran to get dressed and go. I made it right im the middle of her last song. Better than nothing, but I still felt stupid for not realizing it was Saturday, but more upset that I was gonna miss this. WHy do I have to live in the middle of nowhere? Ugh, well at least I made it for the food =]

Final note: My knuckle is killing me. I think I hurt it in TKD, so I'm done typing for the night. Cue the ice and motrin. (If you hadn't realized, this is a fairly routine occurrence... the injuries I mean)

Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer

Do you know you're unlike any other?
You'll always be my thunder, and I said
Your eyes are the brightest of all the colors
I don't wanna ever love another
You'll always be my thunder
So bring on the rain
And bring on the thunder

                                    -Thunder, Boys like Girls

Irony: I love this song, but am terrified of thunderstorms. And this is relevant because it's currently thunderstorming, like it does almost every night for the first half of the summer here. I've lived in NC all of my life and still can't get used to it. Maybe it's because I was almost struck by lightning one year... oh well... I'm working on it.

Anyways, after the first two days home, when almost all of my best friends visited me, it's been pretty boring. The reasons the visits had to happen so soon was 1. i hadn't seen some of them in 5 months, 2. some of them are leaving me for most of the summer to go adventure abroad and 3. it's kinda boring here without friends. And of course I miss all of them at all times. And then comes the sleepover... it starts at my best friend's house, where we bake pizza and eat dinner, and then comes over to my house where we chill and watch Glee and just talk. Or not even talk the whole time. It's just nice to be with this girl, cause we kinda spent all of junior and senior year together.

So for the next two days, I just kinda chilled. For the first time since... well winter break. I went to tae kwon do, went shopping, and generally just did what I wanted. That's when the internet was cooperating... it's been on and off since I got home, and generally off when I want it on.

And then tonight happened. I picked up my sister and her friends from a coffeehouse thing at their school (and my old high school) and took them to Steak & Shake. Everything was good until our waiter gave us our milkshakes and my sister said "I'm so excited for this!" and he replied, "I wish I was..." and we lost it. Couldn't. Stop. Laughing. Then a cop sat down at the table next to us, gun in full view. So we freaked out. After we got over the huge gun across the aisle from us, we were just goofing off and having fun, after all it's just a Steak & Shake. They don't judge. Then my sister tried to shake off her straw from the glass of water it was in, and it went all over me. So we both broke down laughing. Right as the waiter came by. Well he just gave us a look and walked away. Then the manager came over and stood there. Didn't say anything, didn't move, just stood there. That set us off even more! So when he starts walking away, I say something to my sister, and he turns around and answers me. More hysterical laughter. No big deal, it happens a lot when the two of us are together.

So that's my life so far this summer... hopefully these thunderstorms will be gone by tomorrow and my internet will decide to keep working (doubtful).
